with crowds of summer people

Clanging silverware against well-worn dishes

Couples straining to be heard

above  screeching of the local band

 

Streets overflowing

with tourists trying to find their way

Blaring horns chastising impeded drivers

Pedestrians hesitating to dash

between speeding cars

 

Beaches dotted

with multi-colored blankets

Exhausted parents chase sunburnt children

Vacationers drawing out the last days

of rest and relaxation in another’s home

 

Cooler winds blow

as days become shorter

Locals breathe a sigh of relief and

resume normal lives as the signs read
