Quite out of character

I picked up a hitchhiker today

Didn’t give it a second thought

It was as if other hands

were guiding the wheel

As we traveled the road together

this stranger and me

my mind’s eye drew pictures

of the world he created

as he told me of his adventures

Exploring exotic lands

he has seen the world

Experienced kindness and

learned how to recalculate

the best laid plans

Honest and trusting

when most won’t dare

his desire to make connections

wherever he roams

emboldens me to do the same

So Traveler, I thank you

for letting me share

a piece of your world

as I pause to relinquish control

to those guiding hands
