It’s a particular drive
that urges us forward
as we follow paths
that define us
Teacher, Nurse, Chef
Carpenter, Banker, Scientist
Entertainer, Minister, Mom
We all began as children
playing in the schoolyard
For some, the call came early
almost predestined in a grand plan
For others, the way wound around
several sharp curves and u-turns
Still, we were once those children
trying on roles that didn’t fit quite right
In time we find our way
with some getting lost in professions
that evolve into all encompassing ways of life
and others content to punch the daily time clock
and leave it behind at the end of the day
All leading lives those young children
couldn’t possibly imagine in a world of make-believe
Those lucky ones
who grow to become immersed
in roles that allow a true reflection of
that child who once dreamed of glory
define success and achievement
Unique no matter what the role
Shopkeeper, Engineer, Mechanic
Librarian, CEO, Fireman
Politician, Artist, Poet
We all began as children
playing in the schoolyard
It’s a particular drive that urges us forward
as we follow paths that define us
Just remember to smile as you pass
those children playing in the schoolyard

Yes, I can now see the many school mates, army mates and the different paths taken by them and me…..sharing only memories of those good old times and the farewells as we sang auld lang syne years and years ago.
