Balancing Scales

In the quiet hours

as stars slip from the sky

and thoughts are crystal clear

and aspirations are eager and sweet

Mountains can be moved and justice always prevails

When the sun crests just over the horizon, scorching and bright

calamities are born as grave realities push a set agenda

illuminating truths that can no longer be denied

Time for leisurely daydreams to abruptly end

as obstacles choke each intention

Somewhere in the haze

that exists for precious moments

between needs and wants and candor

a choice must be made to calibrate each scale

so that mountains can be moved one stone at a time
