Goodbye, My Love

american-goldfinch-170602_1280

It was in the quiet morning

that her future came to call

Stuck for too long on this dead end road

She was weary from a world too small

With an aching heart, she gave those old dreams wings

With one last kiss, she flew far, far above it all

She’s searching for that place

where her spirit can soar

Not looking for everything that came before

Baby, those blue skies are wide open

Goodbye, my love, goodbye

And in that quiet morning

he learned some things aren’t meant to be

Even the keeper of caged birds knows

in the end, they need to be free

With a broken heart, he surrendered

With shaking hands, he turned the key

Departure, so bittersweet

when the ones we leave behind

are cold reminders of hearts so blind

Fly, little bird, fly

She’s searching for that place

where her spirit can soar

Not looking for everything that came before

Baby, those blue skies are wide open

Goodbye, my love, goodbye

She’s searching for that place

where her spirit can soar

Not looking for everything that came before

Baby, those blue skies are wide open

Goodbye, my love, goodbye

Baby, those blue skies are calling

Goodbye, goodbye
