Sorry

sorry

When the sun fades and

I’m out roaming with ghosts

I remember how it used to be

back when it was you and me

Never felt so lost and alone

that night as I hung up the phone

Waited for that single word

the one I never heard

Time’s tick, tick, ticking away

Never been a better time

for you to say

Sorry, oh baby, I’m sorry

but you never did, you didn’t stay

Now forgiveness sometimes slips

through the cracks and leaves

that lonely connection to the past

Leaves me in the shadows you cast

Time’s tick, tick, ticking away

Never been a better time

for you to say

Sorry, oh baby, I’m sorry

but you never did, you didn’t stay

Been waiting in the wings

hoping you’d see the light

These dreams still haunt me

These dreams haunt me

Waiting on those words

that won’t let me be free

Time’s tick, tick, ticking away

Never been a better time

Sorry, oh baby, I’m sorry

  1. You write it so beautifully. How she keeps waiting. But he’s never going to say “baby I’m sorry.” Clearly, if he was he would have said it. Now would be a good time and tomorrow too, but I’m thinking he’s moved on and not looked back. He isn’t, never was sorry. And when your speaker moves on, she shouldn’t be sorry either. She doesn’t owe him anything, not even her sorrow. Great write 🙂
