Faith’s Song

birds-on-a-wire

Birds on a wire wait for a day that may never come

Still, it’s with deep conviction I hum

along with the song they joyfully sing

about promises only faith can bring

A challenge I won’t shy away from

Might be too bitter a proposal for some

Clipped wings have made them numb

Older than the hills, this thing

that may never come

Raising our voices brings unearned income

no reason to stop beating that drum

Patience weaves an unending ring

strung with hope, an endless wellspring

contributing to a day, the ultimate sum

that may never come
