Saturday Sound Bites — Dream

This week I am participating in Saturday Sound Bites, hosted by Impromptu Promptlings and Peculiar Ponderings.

The prompt this week: List five big dreams that haven’t come true yet…

Five Big Dreams

  • To find the freedom to write full time

Although I love teaching, I look forward to the days when I can spend my time focusing on writing. At the moment  I squeeze in writing time between planning lessons and correcting papers. When my children were young, I was a stay-at-home mom and would spend hours each day at my computer while they were at school. My goal is to be in the position to stay at home and write each day.

  • To find and move into our “dream” house

My husband and I have looked at dozens of houses over the years and have even made offers on a few but they were never quite right for a variety of reasons. We have been focusing on this goal and are closer than ever to reaching it. I dream about a home library for me and a gourmet kitchen for Mark.

  • To complete and publish my historical fiction novel

I started this project about a year ago. It is based on my husband’s grandfather and his escape from Poland in the early 20th Century. It’s going well but I need to find the time to finish it.

I also have several other projects that are completed but need editing. I’m hoping to complete these in the upcoming year and send them out.

  • To become completely immersed in the writing community

I would like to be more active in writing conferences and events. I would also love to find a local writers group and participate fully.

Last year I traveled to Austin, Texas and was part of the Austin International Poetry Festival. I met some great people and listened to some phenomenal writers read their work. It was also great fun to travel to a part of the country I had never seen.

  • To find the time to stop and enjoy each moment

This all seems to be connected to having more time, doesn’t it? It seems like life becomes more hectic each year. One of my dreams is to learn to let go of the things that don’t really matter and appreciate those that do. This is more of a daily mantra I’ve been working on. I want to make more of an effort to do those little things that smooth the edges of daily life like taking walks, reading a good book, and spending more quality time with family and friends.

This year seems to be setting off on the right foot. Hopefully, many of these dreams will be attained in 2019! If not, I will continue to follow this journey where it leads. So far, it’s been a rewarding one.

What are your dreams?

  1. This was a really great post! Listing dreams is a good thing. You might enjoy this quote – it helps keep one working toward your dreams post this on your bathroom mirror – “What have you done today, to make your dreams come true.”
