I tasted love’s promise on parched lips
I rejected truth my eyes could not see
and even as betrayal sank cold on my tender skin
I refuted the portrait renegade emotions painted
Ah, love’s masquerade
I danced with a broken heart
When the world stopped spinning
and that music stopped
I heard a new tune
I smelled the promise of more
out there, somewhere
As I vetoed the pull of the imposter
and found the future unmasked
love’s promise tasted sweet
Wrapped in swathes of red on a blank canvas

I enjoyed your roller coaster masquerade of emotions. I wrote a poem called mask.

Oh it was an interesting write for me. I started off writing a thank you letter to the Slasher Monster Magazine, for a prize I had received for a poem I’d sent to them. The prize was the Mask, which is the featured photo, but somehow I ended up writing the poem and a thank you note 😊😉
