On Finding Clarity

On Finding Clarity

She wakes to walk the streets at dawn
the sky dresses in purples, reds, and golds
Examining the empty storefronts, she wonders What will become of this day
the stillness of the space brings comfort
She addresses the blackbirds and says today will be kind
They chastise her in angry squawks and fly away
As their shadows fade, she laughs at the brilliant nothing left behind
The sky explodes in radiant light as her steps quicken
On the edge of unyielding sadness, she chooses happiness
The clouds in her coffee cup merge and grow cold
