Tenacity

Doorways

A  sliver of light from beneath a heavy door
shimmering, inviting, captivating
I crept closer and closer still
I reached for the key and turned it with trembling fingers
I felt the tumblers fall
I twisted the unresponsive handle and twisted again

Looking for another key, looking for a way out

A sliver of light from beneath a heavy door
shimmering, inviting, captivating
I bathed in its warmth
I dressed in its intention
I ingested its strength
I grasped its possibilities
I reflected its hope
I named it Tenacity

Looking for another key, looking for a way out

A sliver of light shimmering, inviting, captivating
illuminating choices, repercussions
highlighting the key within my heart
a spotlight to announce a moment
I was ready, it was time
I stepped through and slammed the door behind me

Another key, a way out
