Salvation and Splinters

Salvation and Splinters

I discovered an inner rhythm
that summoned a vespertine breeze
I sought illumination from screaming starlight
as it exploded just before dawn
Mine was a wild, wild whisper
as I sang a new song

Change was imminent—
like a single crack
to my bones, this
My branches weighed
heavy till they surrendered
with broken beauty

Salvation amidst splinters,
a serenade framed by the beat of old box drums
I extinguished each demon with the power
of citrine skies and a new day
Mine was a wild, wild whisper
as I sang a new song
