Morning mist is lifting on these morning thoughts
lifting me from dreams that tie me in knots
Time to shake of blankets of illusion
no longer lost in a land of confusion
We all leave homes we once knew
We all try on a new world view
Been round and round this old place, leaving and remaking
I won’t forget your face and my heart still aching
And in the quiet of the morning, you asked with a smile
Won’t you stay, won’t you stay awhile
stay in the memories between those miles
Caught me off balance, this feeling of being torn
thought my plans were sturdy and so well-worn
Such a surprise that this simple plea
could completely undo me
How to hold on while letting go
How to be the storm and the brightest rainbow
Yours has been the hand to hold
This place, a last threshold
And in the quiet of the morning, you asked with a smile
Won’t you stay, won’t you stay awhile
stay in the memories between those miles
In your embrace, I found truth
the past, discoveries made in youth
You showed me the way
Made me ready for this day
Distance between us won’t matter
I’ll hear your voice above the chatter
to keep those memories between each mile
and make each step worthwhile
And in the quiet of a faraway morning, I’ll ask with a smile
Won’t you stay, won’t you stay awhile
Stay, stay a while in my heart
Oh, stay in the memories between those miles
