False Prophets

With a robust voice that rises above the din,

he proclaims salvation to those in the shadows

An imitation of those that would bring feasts to the famine,

he offers false sustenance with honey-lime words

that drip sticky-sweet from his forked tongue

The ultimate chameleon, he drops forget-me-nots

on every empty plate and watches as the masses

consume each petal, spirits sated and curiosity quenched

even as countless bodies fall into shallow graves
