Pelting rain falls as if in triumph,
gutsy in its response to a never-ending drought
Why does the willow prepare for its retreat?
Flowing foliage crowned in yellow belies the strength spread throughout the soil
This brittle beauty relentless in her search of sustenance
leaves a trail of broken sidewalks to bear witness to the quest
Yawning cracks tell the story
of days in limbo that pray for rain
No wonder the willow resides near water
No wonder I ponder these things only as I sleep
